About Search Contest

American Internet Search Contest powered by Yandex will be held for the first time this year for Russian-speaking residents of the USA and Canada. Anyone who reads Russian and has Internet access is welcome to participate in the competition.

In 2001 Yandex, the leading Russian Internet resource, was the first to recognize potential of the Web search as a competitive sport. Thousands of contestants and tens of thousands of spectators of the past five Russian Open Yandex Cups as well as many regional competitions saw for themselves that Internet search may be an exciting game to play and to watch.

North America has always been widely represented at Yandex Cups, all the way to the very finals. Each Yandex Cup attracts arounf hundred participants from USA and Canada.

The American Search Contest is a three-round event, where the first two rounds are on-line and the final one is on location. The first two rounds offer a challenging and fun set of questions that should be answered in real time using any on-line or off-line resources. For instance, one would have three minutes to find when Emma Lazarus's poem appeared in full on the Statue of Liberty's pedestal (answer: 1945).

The final round is a face-off event to be held in Silicon Valley, where the winners of the previous round will find out who is the best Russian-speaking web-searcher in North America.
